“But your fear of defeat means you’ve already lost.” Conor McGregor firebacks at Khabib Nurmagomedov

Conor McGregor responds to Khabib Nurmagomedov

Conor McGregor has fired back at Khabib Nurmagomedov with his latest tweet, rekindling their heated rivalry. The former two-division champion tweeted:

“I fight on! Your father’s plan is never complete because you quit and ran, brother. God bless.”

Conor further demanded a rematch of their infamous UFC 229 clash, daring Daghestani to come out of retirement to face him. He continued:

“I’m still here if you want to go again.” But your fear of defeat means you’ve already lost. Run from it all you want. We all lose in the end. Death takes us all. “I fear nothing from God.”

The tweet was in response to Khabib’s recent comment, in which he mocked a previous statement by the Irisman. Khabib Nurmagomedov recently made a public speaking appearance in Toronto this past weekend, talking about the recent milestones achieved by Umar Nurmagomedov and Islam Makachev.

The Dagestani fighters now wrap the lightweight straps of their respective promotions, with Khabib on the corner of both. However, along with praising his stablemates, Khabib took the opportunity to take a dig at the Irishman’s quote.

“I heard a long time ago when one guy was talking about, ‘We’re here to take over’. “But we’re here to take over,”

said the UFC hall of famer.

Khabib’s comment was a reference to Conor McGregor’s well-known remark made in the aftermath of UFC Fight Night Dublin back in 2014. The event saw “The Notorious” finish former TUF winner, Diego Brando, in the first round in his home country, cementing both the moment and the quote as important parts of his legacy. As expected, the remarks weren’t taken too kindly by the Irishman, who soon took to Twitter to fireback at his archrival.

The two veterans had previously locked horns at UFC 229 for the UFC lightweight gold, resulting in the victory for “the Eagle,” who submitted “Mystic Mac” in the fourth round of the bout with a neck crank.

The violence, however, didn’t end with the bell, as Kahbib infamously jumped at Conor’s corner allegedly after the provocative remarks by Conor’s teammate Dillion Dannis. The two sides then clashed inside and outside the ring.

This chaos might be three years old now, but it doesn’t seem like the bad blood between the rivals has ended yet, with the latest flare-ups being witnessed on Twitter today.

After the incident, Khabib would go on to defend his title twice against top contenders Dustin Poirier and Justin Gatheje before announcing his retirement in 2020 after the death of his father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov.

This put an end to any talk of a possible rematch with the Irishman. Conor, on the other hand, is currently on a two-fight losing streak, the last of which led to a trip to the doctor after the former champion broke his left tibia.

Clearly, the two fighters have taken their own routes, but the recent war of words has sparked conversations regarding the possible next chapter in arguably MMA’s greatest rivalry.

  1. If the two were to ever step inside the octagon for a rematch, it would shatter all UFC PPV Event buys. I just don’t see Khabib coming back, he doesn’t appear to be driven by money. Wish we could have seen Khabib and GSP fight as well.
