Our Mission

Make MMA make sense — for everyone.

MMA is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world, but it can feel impenetrable if you didn't grow up with it. The commentary assumes you know the fighters. The rulebook is thick. The techniques have Portuguese and Japanese names. It's a lot.

Speak MMA exists to fix that. We write the explainers, breakdowns, profiles, and reviews we wished existed when we were new to the sport — and that we still want to read now that we've been around it for years. Plain English. Real expertise. No gatekeeping.

Our Story

How a side project turned into a resource for MMA fans worldwide.

Speak MMA started as a small, scrappy blog in 2020, built by a handful of MMA fans who were tired of two things: paywalled coverage that treated the sport like a finance newsletter, and search results stuffed with thin content that answered the wrong questions.

We started writing the articles we wanted to read. "What's a kimura?" "Why do UFC fighters have cauliflower ears?" "What are the UFC weight classes, actually?" Straightforward answers, written by people who'd trained long enough to know the difference between a Kimura and an Americana — and also knew what it was like to Google those terms for the first time.

Over the last 6 years, we've grown into a full MMA resource covering fighter profiles, UFC news, gear reviews, training fundamentals, and our ever-growing plain-English glossary. The voice hasn't changed: still written by fans, for fans, in a tone that respects your time.

How we work

The editorial standards behind every article and review on this site.

Independent

No brand pays for placement in our rankings. No sponsored "reviews". Affiliate links never influence what we recommend.

Research-Based

We cross-reference specs, prices, and user feedback across multiple sources — not just the manufacturer's page — before we publish.

Hands-On When Possible

For gear, we use what we review. For techniques, our writers train. Nothing on the site is written from a distance when we can help it.

Updated Regularly

The sport changes fast. So do prices, rules, and rankings. We revisit and update our evergreen content rather than letting it go stale.

Transparent

We disclose affiliate partnerships clearly. When we get something wrong, we correct it openly. No hidden revenue streams.

Fan-Written

Speak MMA is written by people who love the sport and train the sport. Not by a content mill. The voice is ours, the opinions are ours.

Our editorial team

A small group of MMA fans, trainees, and writers behind the site.
