Editorial Policy

This page sets out how Speak MMA decides what to publish, who writes it, and how we handle corrections. We update this policy whenever our process changes.

Who writes for us

Every article on Speak MMA is published under a named author. Authors are listed on our Authors page, each with a public bio. We don’t publish anonymously and we don’t use AI to generate articles in our author bylines’ names.

What we publish

  • Glossary entries — plain-English definitions of MMA terms, techniques, positions, and rules.
  • Articles & guides — explainers covering MMA rules, weight classes, fighter breakdowns, and the broader sport.
  • News — coverage of fights, events, and developments across major MMA promotions.
  • Gear roundups — researched recommendations on MMA equipment.

How we research

We work from primary sources wherever possible: the Unified Rules of MMA, athletic commission rulings, official UFC and Bellator records, fighter interviews, and fight footage. Where we cite a fact, statistic, or rule, we link to or name the source.

For glossary entries, definitions are checked against the published rule sets of the UFC, ONE Championship, PFL, and Bellator. Where definitions differ between promotions, we note the difference.

How we handle gear roundups

Our gear pages are researched roundups based on spec analysis, user reviews from training communities, and — where we have it — direct experience from team members who train. We update them as new products come out or as our preferences change.

We do not accept payment to recommend a specific product. Some links are affiliate links; see our Affiliate Disclosure for the full picture on how that works.

Corrections

If we get something wrong, we fix it. Substantive corrections are noted at the bottom of the affected article with a dated note. To report an error, email [email protected] or use our contact page.

AI and content generation

We use AI tools to help with research, outlining, copy-editing, and link auditing. We do not publish AI-generated articles under human bylines. Every article that carries an author name has been written or substantively edited by that person.
