Two fan favorite fighters are set to open the main card of UFC 327 this Saturday. Nate “The Train” Landwehr will face off against UFC veteran and the last WEC fighter standing, Cub Swanson. Many fans and analysts suspect this could be Cub’s swan song before retiring from fighting.
While speaking with MMA media, Nate was asked if all the questions about Cub’s retirement and the fight narrative being centered around Swanson affected him in any way. Nate said, “That’s his story line, it ain’t got nothing to do with me.” He further elaborated, “I got my own story line and were going to go in there and figure it out.”
When asked what his storyline is, he told members of the MMA media, “I’m tryig to get it. I’m trying to go out there and throw hands. Get back on this winning streak.”
Both men known for their fan friendly, exciting styles, making them must see TV. Nate was asked if fans’ expectations of fireworks created any added pressure during the buildup to this fight. “Nah Man,” Nate told the reporter. “That’s kinda like asking a dog why it’s a dog. You know what I mean? A cat’s a cat what you see is what you are.”
As this is his first fight during the Paramount Plus era, it will be the first time either man has the possibility of winning a 100k bonus. On this, Nate said, “That 100 man, I’d like to get some back pay, honestly. I got five bonuses, I wouldn’t mind an extra check. Makes you mad and happy at the same time.”
Careers and Legacy Collide in Nate the train vs. Swanson
Nate Landwehr has won two of his last five fights. Coming off back to back KO and TKO losses, this bout could very well be for his job in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Historically, the UFC has been known to release fighters who suffer three consecutive losses. Unless this turns into a Fight of the Night, barnburner, Nate “The Train” could be fighting to keep his spot this Saturday night.
Cub Swanson had a short layoff after earning a Fight of the Night knockout over Billy Quarantillo in December 2024. The stakes, the excitement, and the possible end of the WEC era make this a fight no fan should skip.
