What does pound for pound mean?
Pound for pound means that the weight of different fighters across all weight classes is adjusted, so that they are compared solely on the basis of skill and fighting merit. Those fighters who are most likely to win solely based on skill are then ranked high up in the pound for pound rankings.
Pound for pound rankings are highly subjective, as the people making the rankings will value certain criteria more highly than others. Then again, all UFC rankings are subjective to a degree, as they are determined by a panel of MMA media members.
