The UFC’s women strawweight division was introduced to fight fans in 2014.
It was on the 20th season of The Ultimate Fighter, when it was announced that the women competing would be fighting for the inaugural UFC Strawweight Champion title, making the winner of the show a UFC Champion.
Ordinarily, the winner of the UFC’s TV show, The Ultimate Fighter, would be awarded with a UFC contract, however, season 20 had added incentive for the show’s contestants.
The final of the show saw Rose Namajunas & Carla Esparza compete for the coveted title.
Carla Esparza emerged victorious and claimed the accolade of being the first ever UFC Strawweight champion.
