The UFC Lightweight division has been around since 2001, it’s inaugural Champion was Jens Pulver, a fighter who also happened to co-host TUF 5 alongside BJ Penn, one of the greatest seasons of The Ultimate Fighter ever. Ever since then, we have had UFC rankings in the division.
The division has been the home of some of MMA’s biggest stars. It is the weight class in which the famous Conor McGregor became the UFC’s first 2 division UFC Champion. It is also the division in which Khabib Nurmagomedov retired as the undefeated Lightweight Champion, with a perfect record of 29-0.
On top of the elite talent which this UFC weight class produces, it has also put on some of the best fights in MMA history. Gaethje v Chandler, Poirier v Hooker, Gaethje v Alvarez, Khabib v McGregor and many, many more.
