The UFC’s Flyweight division is the lightest weight class out of all the men’s weight classes. It is also one of the newest weight classes in UFC history, only becoming officially established in 2011.
The first ever Champion would be decided by a 4 man tournament. Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson won the tournament and became the UFC inaugural Flyweight Champion. Ever since then, we have had UFC rankings in the division.
Demetrious Johnson would go on to defend his title 11 times, before losing the belt controversially to Henry Cejudo in 2018.
Dana White seemed to flirt with the idea of shutting down the Flyweight division in the past. However, the division had new life breathed into it when Henry Cejudo put on a string of top performances after claiming the belt.
