The Bantamweight division was first brought into existence when UFC merged with WEC (World Extreme Cagefighting). The reigning Bantamweight Champion of WEC was none other than Dominick Cruz.
An inaugural UFC Bantamweight title fight would decide who the promotion’s first official UFC champion would be. The fight was between Dominick Cruz & Scott Jorgensen. Dominick Cruz won the fight and captured the Bantamweight title belt.
However, as had long been Cruz’s issue, he was sidelined dur to injury and the Bantamweight division moved on. Renan Barao would become the 2nd Bantamweight Champion, when he defeated the California Kid, Urijah Faber. At the time, Renan Barao was on a 30 fight win streak and he seemed unbeatable.
That was until TJ Dillashaw realised his full potential, and TKO’d him in 2014. Since then, the division has had several high profile Champions.
